Oily Hair Causes -- Solutions You Can Do at Home
Are you struggling with greasy hair? Here's how to deal with oily hair once and for all.
Oily Hair Causes
Here
are some factors that affect how greasy your hair becomes and how quickly it
becomes oily.
- Natural oil production. The sebaceous
glands in our scalp produce oil to make hair naturally strong, lustrous and
healthy. However, overproduction of these natural oils can create a build-up,
leaving hair with that overly slick, limp look. How much oil your glands
produce varies from one person to the next.
- Hair type. Typically, coarse or
textured hair remains fresh-looking even after a week. However, fine hair will
probably look and feel greasy even after a day.
- Till, the first two factors may
overlap one another. Your specific condition depends on how much oil your scalp
produces and how well your hair type can handle that amount.
- Washing your hair too frequently dries
out the scalp and hair. In turn, our sebaceous glands compensate by producing
more oil. Thus the oily hair problem.
- Using too much shampoo weighs down hair and strips it of natural oils.
Solutions You Can Do at Home
- Shampooing not more than three times a
week is ideal. Use Sukin Oil Balancing Shampoo, which cleans deeply and removes
excess oil build-up on hair and scalp. Make sure to brush your hair before
washing. Wet your hair with water that's not too hot to avoid stripping away
natural oils. Put a pence-size amount of shampoo on your palm, foam it up and
gently massage it onto the scalp down to the roots of your hair. Rinse
thoroughly, and then towel-dry gently. Avoid brushing while hair is still wet,
as this can cause hair breakage. If you must put some order in your hair right
after washing, use a loose-toothed comb to avoid damage.
- Apply hair conditioner properly.
Unlike shampooing, you can condition hair daily. However, the wrong way of
doing it results in oily hair. Apply conditioner to towel-dried hair and not
while it's still soaking wet. Ideally, conditioner is meant for the mid-length
area of the hair and down to the ends. Make sure to avoid the roots of the hair
near the scalp, as this leads to a greasy scalp. Soak for five minutes or less
before rinsing gently but thoroughly.
After
finding the root cause of your oily hair problem, follow the home tips above to
achieve gorgeous hair.
